Specialist voice coaching for the Bar
Before the court considers your argument, it hears your voice.
Make it count.
Vocal authority. Precision. Persuasion. Develop greater control of the voice you rely on every day in court.
The difference is in the detail
Advocacy places sustained demands on the voice: clarity under pressure, authority without unnecessary effort, and vocal choices that help listeners follow complex arguments. This is specialist coaching in the mechanics of vocal performance—not theatrical presentation training.
Explore how vocal quality, intensity and resonance can support a composed, assured delivery without relying on pushing or shouting.
Work with articulation, phrasing, pace and emphasis so that the structure and significance of an argument are easier to follow.
Use purposeful emphasis, pacing, phrasing and vocal variation to bring clarity to your reasoning and give key arguments greater persuasive impact.
The method
Effective voice use is not simply a matter of speaking louder, more slowly or with greater confidence.
Anne-Marie’s approach is grounded in the anatomy, physiology and acoustics of voice production. Drawing on more than three decades of specialist experience and her expertise in Estill Voice Training, she teaches the precise physical mechanisms that determine vocal quality, clarity, intensity and flexibility.
By developing greater awareness and independent control of these mechanisms, barristers can make informed vocal choices that support the meaning, intention and persuasive purpose of their advocacy.
The aim is not to change your voice, but to extend your command of it.
Vocal control for advocacy
The aim is not to make every barrister sound the same. It is to give you more options—and greater awareness of how your voice works—so you can choose the delivery that serves the moment.
A dedicated focus for women at the Bar
Women barristers can face particular expectations around how authority should sound: how much vocal weight to use, whether to vary pitch, how direct to be, or how to balance warmth with command. This specialist strand offers space to examine those expectations without prescribing a single “right” way to sound.
The focus is practical and individual: understanding your voice, identifying choices that serve your advocacy, and developing a delivery that feels both effective and authentic, balancing the personal and professional.
Available as: a dedicated workshop for women barristers, a session within a chambers programme, or confidential individual coaching.
